ABSTRACT

First, the importance of “how to” in methods and methodological writing is discussed, followed by its application in the research methods classroom. Two selections are included as examples. The first, “Goodall’s Verbal Exchange Coding: An Overview and Example,” illustrates a holistic and culture-centered approach to conversation analysis. The second example, “Chapter 10 – Thinking Narratively” from the textbook Thinking Qualitatively: Methods of Mind, discusses five writing modalities for qualitative researchers: narrative, monologue, dialogue, poetry, and proverbs.
