ABSTRACT

Forensic artists need to have a good working knowledge of the head. You should be familiar with the bone and muscle anatomy of the head so that you can draw it accurately. You should also be able to speak intelligently with a forensic anthropologist when doing reconstructions and postmortem drawings. I'll give a short lesson on the three ancestral skull groups and two sexes, with the differences between them. I'll talk about anatomical position and location, so you can understand those terms. Then I'll show and describe the seventeen muscles of expression and mastication that you should be familiar with on the face. These will help you to understand how a face moves and how to age a face.
