ABSTRACT

The introduction first introduces the research topic of the monograph, the research questions, and explains the case study selection. While the debate about migrants’ transnational political practices of migrants goes back to the mid-1990s, this book is unique in systematically studying political mobilisations of Egyptian migrants and their children in a European setting during and after the Arab Uprisings. In the following part, the theoretical approach of the manuscript is outlined, combining literature on political transnationalism with social movement theory to frame diaspora politics. The introduction then specifies the methodology of the research, which combined an analysis of policy documents, expert interviews, semi-directive interviews with activists, and a content and network analysis of a series of Facebook groups and pages. The chapter concludes with the contributions to the field of the research and outlines the general structure of the book.
