ABSTRACT

This chapter talks about people behind the peer-review system: the reviewers. For many, December is a holiday month of gift giving, but the experience of one as a track chair for the Academy of International Business (AIB) annual meeting persuaded him that the real gift-giving time, at least professionally, is from mid-January to mid-February. It was during those weeks that so many AIB peers gave their time and attention to read and review the hundreds of papers submitted to the track for competitive or interactive presentation at the upcoming AIB annual meetings. Post-submission peer review means that the book quarried from your dissertation may get another round of review and write-up in an applied professional journal like the Economist or a newspaper like the New York Times. Boards seek their reviews on grant requests. And then there are the tenure and promotion letters. Social factors related to peer standards and pressures seem especially important.
