ABSTRACT

The signing of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change in December 2015 marked a key milestone in climate change and green finance. In combination with the 2015 Sustainable Development Goals, these demonstrated for the first time the worldwide commitment to fight global warming and climate change so as to achieve a global low carbon future. In June 2017, the G20 Taskforce on Climate Financial Disclosure (TCFD) published its final report and recommendations, which contained detailed recommendations on voluntary climate-related financial disclosures. TCFD was chaired by Michael Bloomberg and comprised 32 financial leaders across the world. The TCFD report recommended leading banks and companies should make their future climate disclosures in line with a new framework underpinned by seven key principles. The chapter discusses the details of the United Kingdom Green Finance Initiative governance improvements and the Hong Kong Stock Exchange environmental, social and corporate governance improvements.
