ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the creative process of writing from concept through completion. The importance of effective storytelling cannot be underestimated, and students are taken step-by-step through the process. Techniques for developing original ideas and adapting existing material are presented along with the concept of the “hook.” Students are equipped with strategic approaches to dramatic writing, such as the outline and treatment. The chapter highlights dramatic structure and character development. The end of the chapter focuses on screenplay structure and format as well as television writing.
