ABSTRACT

This chapter begins with an overview of innovations that led to the development of cinematography and early film recording systems. Options for video recording are surveyed with attention to the role of lenses and camera features and functions found on most video camera systems. Essential skills for image control are introduced and explained. The chapter includes a review of popular camera support systems from tripods to drones. The professionals who comprise the camera team are introduced, and students learn the role of these crew members. The chapter ends with a survey of traditional art movements that can be expressed through videography to challenge students to create extraordinary worlds with video cameras.
