ABSTRACT

The main approach to the organising of resources within public services is by locating resources and the associated infrastructure within organisations. These vary enormously in size, complexity, resources and geographical coverage. This chapter considers three of the common approaches to integrated care designed around organisations, partnership boards, integrated organisations and pooled budgets. Integrating of budgets should therefore be seen as one enabler rather than as a cure-all solution to achieve more coordinated care. Organisations require a means to oversee their various activities and ensure that their resources are being deployed effectively to achieve their overall purpose. Community Health Partnerships were introduced through the National Health Service (NHS) Reform Act 2004 and run as committees or sub-committees of NHS boards. There is a long history of partnership boards being deployed in England and Wales to protect and promote the welfare of children and young people.
