ABSTRACT

The deadliest incident of outlaw biker violence in United States history took place in Waco, Texas, on May 17, 2015, creating the most recent moral panic involving outlaw bikers, as of this writing. This public violence was the trigger event for a media blitz that created a sensationalized national and international debate on outlaw biker violence and law enforcement's reaction before, during, and after the carnage. Outlaw biker violence is endemic and a part of the culture and lifestyle of those who live and travel in their milieu. The violence occurs between and among bikers and those they encounter in their social world. There are some ''bad men'' in the biker world. The most disturbing and dangerous violence is that which takes place in public settings, putting innocent persons at risk of death and injury and triggering moral panics such as occurred at Waco, Texas.
