ABSTRACT

This chapter explores research into a number of contemporary issues in fundraising theory and practice, particularly concerning its digital aspects such as online fundraising, the roles of social media and content marketing, fundraising via mobile devices and the use of digital media for crowdfunding and for raising money during telethons. The chapter concludes with an examination of research studies in the specialist but important fields of major gift fundraising, legacy fundraising and nonprofits’ sponsorships of sporting events. Under-researched areas of the last three topics are highlighted.
