ABSTRACT

This chapter explains a question about money that is particularly salient concerning responding to calling. The analogy of vocational calling to telephonic calling is a natural one, particularly in terms of a response to a call. One component of the technology that remains a constant is the requirement of a notification that permits music industry professionals to know that someone is calling. Contemplating a response to calling rests on two preliminary presumptions: that there is a call to respond to, and a reason or desire to respond to it. Yet Chuck Harmony subjective measure of success was low, as his ultimate calling in the industry is to be an artist and music industry logician, rather than a producer. An empowered perspective on calling suggests that music industry professionals' response can and should be less dependent on the source of the call and more influenced by the call itself.
