ABSTRACT

This chapter explains the system management standard, which provides a framework against which to evaluate our current system and its operation and a means of identifying other aspects of its control and improvement. A standardized toolset for evaluating our system maturity is found in the system management standard, which has been professionally reviewed and adopted by the American Society for Quality Government Division. This standard is based on the idea that quality processes and systems should create excellent work continuously and predictably. An obvious benefit of application of the standard is the ability to score and rank a set of systems throughout an organization, both as a means of evaluation and improvement and as a means of planning for future improvement. The creation of a system approach and its deliberate deployment are therefore critical and important aspects of system management, which are recognized in the system purpose and structure category area.
