ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a figurational approach which focuses on the various human figurations and their entanglement with media. The recursive transformation of deep mediatization can be described in how these figurations change and their interrelationship to one another. The chapter discusses deep mediatization’s new relatedness with figurations through global myths, infrastructures and data, the emergence of new figurations as well as the transformation of existing ones. The ways of leading a good life are correspondingly diverse – and one almost tends to say that a part of a good life lies in this plurality and diversity of living. The transformation of the world through new media technologies became represented as the project of a digital generation. The political regulation of digital media and their infrastructures play a critical role in the organization of deep mediatization. Maps, graphs and visualizations of digital traces are used to publicize the ways in which datafication affects contemporary society.
