ABSTRACT

To exercise the privilege demands sensitivity to subtlety and forthrightness of action, that creative fusion of aggression and affection which summons forth the highest human talents. Turnover in personnel and deteriorating productivity are sure signs of organizational and executive in-sensitivity. True sensitivity motivates people. Fortunately, however, anyone with the desire and the willingness to invest time and effort can gain the genuine sensitivity to individual needs that boosts morale and enhances productivity. Every excellent company displays sensitivity. True sensitivity springs from a deep understanding of the basic needs and expectations of people. A sensitive executive works much like the conductor of a large orchestra. Sensitive executives motivate people in the most effective, lasting ways. Those who lack sensitivity, no matter how insightful their strategies, offer nothing but cold, heartless plans, and their efforts at rallying the troops to support a vision of the company’s future will probably fail.
