ABSTRACT

The world is a competitive place, especially in market economies that seek to pit one person or organization against another, in theory to bring down the price of a good or service. Architects deal with this daily, and yet while architects must compete with each for work, the win/lose nature of competition presents a paradox for a profession focused on creating win/win solutions. The ethics of trust offers one way to overcome this paradox by showing how remaining trusted by others matters more than winning any particular commission and that over the long term, those who are most trusted end up winning the most.
