ABSTRACT

The economy in the laissez-faire model, the King identified specific sectors where he believed Morocco had regional and international advantages. The King focused on supporting and expanding local small- and medium-sized enterprises to build the country’s domestic industrial base. The Plan for Industrial Acceleration (PAI) builds on previous efforts to turn around and support numerous sectors that the King identified as areas of potential growth. The PAI markets the country as “a well connected country where the movement of people, goods and data is smooth and rapid. In order to attract original equipment manufacturers and other global suppliers to invest, Morocco needed to improve its transportation infrastructure: its ports, roads, and railways. Marco Rensma and Saad Hamoumi’s research offers an insightful profile of business opportunities in Morooco and of the country’s efforts to bolster its transportation sector. The efforts of King Mohammed VI have paid off, driving both industrial development and employment in the transportation industry.
