ABSTRACT

A genre or kind of non-fiction is theory or criticism and this kind will tell us more and build on what we have seen with travel writing and memoir. In the context of comparative literature, theory and other fields, identity has been debated with some urgency. In literary and cultural studies, from psychoanalysis, poststructuralism, cultural materialism through ethnic studies and postcolonialism to queer theory and feminism, questions of identity have been a major focus. The issue of postmodernism and recent theory in a cultural and intellectual milieu is something that has long been a matter of debate. Virgil Nemoianu considers that the theories and philosophies of culture involved determinism, that is they were necessary and might be predicted, but that in postmodernism "this becomes an impossibility or mere game". He argues that conservatism is a branch of liberalism and attempts to deepen political debate historically rather than be part of the narrow ideological public debate in these times.
