ABSTRACT

The concluding chapter places the findings of the book within the current debate on new Englishes, by discussing the volatility of language borders. This section also stresses that, given the growth of the so-called ‘New Englishes’ and the potential influences that they may have on the development of the English language in general, the topics examined in this book appear particularly relevant in gaining new insights into the lexical evolution that the language is undergoing. In particular, the chapter concludes that lexical investigation can be indicative of specific cultural and linguistic mutations both at an intervarietal and intravarietal level.
