ABSTRACT

This chapter explores some of the reasons for this spectacular rise of international development, the reasons for innovation having risen so quickly in this economy and recent examples during this period of development. Apart from Hofstede’s theory, researchers have considered the relationship of entrepreneurship and cultural values and beliefs to other dimensions such as the need for achievement, autonomy and self-efficacy. The study identified four dimensions studied in entrepreneurship and that underpin new business creation. They include recognition of achievement, independence from others, learning and development, and roles. Nonetheless, remarkably, overseas Chinese have attained exceptional achievements in entrepreneurship as they have at home, especially in the last two decades. Further research can highlight why values, culture and entrepreneurship are closely linked and thus form a point of difference when context, values and culture are taken into account, such as the situation in China. What is emphasized in our iterative conceptualization of entrepreneurship is personal evaluation, planning, acting and re-evaluating.
