ABSTRACT

The internationalization of Chinese entrepreneurship can be seen as a very complex and dynamic phenomenon with a relatively long history. This chapter focuses on an elaboration of the earlier years of ethnic Chinese entrepreneurs as the first generation, as well as their children and grandchildren as the second and third generations, conducting their business activities overseas, predominately in the Southeast Asian region. It describes the particular entrepreneurs with the intention of contrasting and comparing the different generations of ethnic Chinese entrepreneurs operating businesses outside China. The chapter explains the wave of ethnic Chinese entrepreneur business activities returning from overseas to China. Based on the study of the outcomes of the similar and different characteristics, and the process of internationalization of ethnic Chinese entrepreneurship, it summarizes a number of key implications related to the development of literature in the IB field as well as relevant policy and practices.
