ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we provide a summary reflection on the results of our analyses in the book. We conclude by arguing that the attention in this book has been directed towards the formation of citizens through current discourses on citizenship and education for citizenship in adult education. Such attention is important and urgent, we argue, in order to render visible and to problematise current regimes of truth that operate. The urgency comes to the fore in that these regimes of truth make certain futures of citizenship and its educational provision possible, while other futures are ignored or even made impossible to imagine. Taking on this scenario, problematising such regimes and their related notions of the possibilities and impossibilities of the present and the future is crucial in order to make other futures conceivable and thus even possible.
