ABSTRACT

During the last six or seven years there has been a remarkable development of aviation in Kenya and Tanganyika, a development which has not been shared by Uganda. The reason for this lack of development in the Protectorate is not difficult to understand. The extensions required have been indicated to the appropriate authorities. Before this can be rated as an all-weather landing-ground the site will require draining. There is an aerodrome in existence at Masindi but it is not well situated, being too close to the mountains, while one arm is far too short and cannot be lengthened on account of the slope. Some days were spent in examining two other sites, and it is recommended that the old site be abandoned in favour of one of these two. A good aerodrome can be constructed with little difficulty and expense on the south side of the Masindi–Butiaba road, about half-way between the bottom of the escarpment and Butiaba Port.
