ABSTRACT

This chapter contains a letter, regarding a resolution, as under, was passed at a meeting of shareholders of the Wassau (Gold Coast) Mining Company, Limited, to Colonial Office. The meeting strongly urges on the Government the importance of constructing the railway to the mines with as little delay as possible, in accordance with their promise. It is found that the Natives are unwilling to transport heavy pieces of machinery, such work being undoubtedly much harder than the transport of ordinary goods. The Company contemplated spending a considerable sum of money on fresh machinery for further development of their properties, but so great are the difficulties of transport they hesitate about doing so, and are particularly desirous, therefore, of knowing how soon the railway will be put in hand, and at what time there is a probability of its being completed.
