ABSTRACT

A conversation with Dr. Cynthia K. Chandler. Dr. Chandler is a professor of counseling in the Department of Counseling and Higher Education at the University of North Texas. She is also a licensed professional counselor and a licensed marriage and family therapist. In the year 2000, she started the first training and supervision program for animal-assisted interventions in an accredited counseling program at a major university. She authored the book Animal-Assisted Therapy in Counseling. She has provided animal-assisted counseling with adolescents and adults. Her therapy assistants have included dogs, a cat, and horses.
