ABSTRACT

At the risk of being unnecessarily cautious or even redundant, the author wants to recapitulate the purpose and value of the preventive measures plan. The plan in its finished form will have three essential component elements or parts. The first part involves identifying specific actions that are intended to prevent the problem and its effects from occurring. The second, and equally important component, is focused on limiting the damage in the event that our preventive actions don't deliver the expected results. The third part of the plan involves the development and use of detective controls that should let us know that the problem is present. All three components are important and integral parts of the preventive measures plan. Creating preventive or deterrent actions for a future, potential root cause is no different than doing the same thing for an existing problem. Evaluate the planned actions and then recalculate the total risk factor.
