ABSTRACT

The instructional system functions of delivery, management, support, and evaluation should be in place and working if the instruction is to operate effectively and efficiently. This chapter describes these four functions, followed by additional guidance for instructor-present instruction and instructor-free instruction. In the design and development phases of instructional design, appropriate delivery methods were selected and developed to deliver instruction to the learners. Prior to implementing the instructional system, one should ensure that the delivery function is ready to support the operation of the system. Without adequate support, it may be impossible to implement the instructional system, or at best, its implementation may suffer reduced effectiveness and efficiency. Management is the function of directing or controlling instructional operations, such as assigning individuals to roles and responsibilities associated with the instructional program, or acquiring, installing, and maintaining equipment and materials, or hiring and managing staff.
