ABSTRACT
My affectionate and -lamented father Charles Frederick Horn was bom at Nordhausen in Germany February 4th in the year 1762 and intended by his father to be a surveyor of lands. But a love for the science of music bore all a parent’s authority before it. In vain were the instruments broken [and] sold, and as often purchased, and destroyed again by the intended surveyor’s father, till the subject of this memoir determined to leave his native home and parents to visit the great cities of Europe.
