ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book reveals that the 2016 presidential election presented a unique set of ethical dilemmas, including many for those not directly involved with politics. Donald Trump was indeed a unique presidential candidate. While the ethical demands on celebrities are not clear, others are expected to conform to specified codes of professional ethics. The premise is that some professionals, especially those in the public eye, have faced vexing and unprecedented ethical dilemmas in the age of Trump because of the kinds of actions Trump took as a candidate and that he continues to take as President. Four examples are discussed: the practitioners act in a way that is clearly seen by the public; they had well-publicized codes of ethical conduct or accepted behavioral norms; and how they performed their professional duties was impacted by contemporary politics.
