ABSTRACT

As graduate students make the transition from being consumers of research to producers of it, they face numerous challenges, especially in terms of developing the knowledge of and confidence toward becoming a researcher. This chapter introduces master’s level students in the field of writing studies to the idea of becoming a writing researcher. Stressing that they are researchers already, the chapter suggests ways to begin thinking of transferring what they already know about research from their own lives to becoming a writing researcher. The chapter leads students through a series of prompts and exemplars from other students who have been in their position as a way to introduce them to this new professional stance.
