ABSTRACT

Before diving into data collection, researchers spend time planning their study. This chapter introduces graduate student researchers to the planning process, focusing on creating annotated bibliographies and literature reviews, selecting a research site and gaining access to that site, and considering the role of human subjects in their research process. Through prompts and exemplars, graduate student researchers are guided through these preliminary planning steps. The chapter next moves to suggestions for writing a full research proposal and concludes with two research proposals written by recent master’s students.
