ABSTRACT

In this chapter, I describe the procedures and case study context specific to this research project. Specifically, I discuss the design of the study as a set of cross-sectional cohorts, in-depth interviews, and analytical operations. The remainder of the chapter then elucidates the case study of the University of Washington’s Master of Architecture program, including the regional qualities and long-standing ethos that continue to inform students’ experiences. This background information provides readers with the institutional conditions necessary for interpreting the narrative content presented in the following two chapters. Such context is essential when translating the results to other institutional or cultural settings.
