ABSTRACT

In this chapter, I dissect the stories of architectural education and then refashion them into a collage comprised of various themes appearing across cross-sectional cohorts. What emerges is a set of patterns regarding the degree to which personal identities align with architectural identities, strongly affecting the tone of each narrative. What is consistent across narratives, however, is the importance of certain inflection points and formative experiences that structure becoming an architect. Namely, these were the transition into and out of school and into the profession, as well as high-impact practices like studying abroad or courses with unconventional pedagogies.
