ABSTRACT

If one had a fantasy of the most desirable schizophrenic patient an analyst could wish for, Bathsheba would be that patient. When she came into my office, I saw a beautiful, tall 37-year- old woman with a magnificent figure, wearing a distorting bra and no make-up. I subsequently estimated her I.Q. to be 160. She is certainly the most intelligent person I ever knew. Amazingly for a schizophrenic, she can, at times, be utterly charming. But what makes her a fantasy patient is her ability to articulate. When she is willing to tell me truthfully what she feels, she can describe it so exactly, with such colorful metaphor, that I could believe I was present at the creation of a small work of art.
