ABSTRACT

Ideologies of the right, just like left-wing ideologies, have served as a basis or justification for terrorist acts. Right-wing groups usually seek to conserve existing values or seek to return to some recent or distant past situation that they consider ideal. Right-wing terrorism lagged behind that of left-wing groups prior to World War I because the ideologies of the right were in power as the political establishment. Many paramilitary groups associated with the right wing and practicing terrorism have appeared in societies where they have received at least the covert support of the government in power in dealing with other political groups in the country. Violence and terrorism became an integral part of the history of the Weimar Republic. Right-wing violence overall has been more prevalent than other types of domestic terrorism. Right-wing terrorism in the United States has been higher in poorer states, more rural states, and where women have had an increasing presence in the workforce.
