ABSTRACT

Mirroring the introduction, the conclusion starts with the words of a young woman, Afânia, who took part in this study. Afânia dissolves the difference between pregnant schoolgirls and non-pregnant schoolgirls. She says: Those girls who get pregnant while they are in school are not different from us … they are us. We want the same things: we want education, a fulfilling job, and a loving family. It is from here that the conclusion leads, drawing together the main points of this book. A first contribution of this work is therefore to (re)position in-school pregnancy. This wording indicates that the act of positioning has been done before, albeit implicitly. In order to (re)position, it has been therefore necessary to first ‘expose and then dissolve’ (Arnfred, 2004) the different dichotomies at play in the construction of in-school pregnancy as a problem.
