ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to answering the research question, which is this: What aspects of organizational design influenced self-organization of 107 Aerial Systems battery and the emergence of safety during their operations within Task Force Uruzgan? It describes the content of the conceptual compass and presents background information on the unit of study, the Dutch Army’s 107th Aerial Systems Battery, and Task Force Uruzgan in which this unit operated. Within the Royal Netherlands Army, 107 Aerial Systems battery is a unit of about 100 employees that operates with Unmanned Aerial Vehicles. Although the steps for data analysis are based on the works of F. Wester and V. Peters, the chapter focuses on the works of Yin, who elaborated extensively on characteristics of reliability and validity for case study research in general. With regard to validity, R. K. Yin points to three types of validity: construct internal and external validity. The chapter presents the results of the reduction and integration phase.
