ABSTRACT

There are many ways to use the devore process on a variety of fabric types. This chapter lays out some history and origin of the term devore, the basic process of etching fiber, techniques and tips on achieving fine lines and intricate motifs with etching, tools and techniques for applying etching paste. There is a section on how to create your own etching paste. Included are process directions for dyeing each fiber in the same fabric, different colors, and even hand painting cellulose to replicate a 1920s example provided.
