ABSTRACT
In order to choose the appropriate dyes that will bond with the fabric the dyer dyes, they must have some knowledge of fibers, how to identify fiber content, and what dyes to use that are specifically made for those fibers. In this chapter I share my own burn chart and sensory observations in the identification of fiber content. I list and describe additives. I discuss how to swatch and how to increase dye and water amounts when going from swatching to the vat.
