ABSTRACT
Chapter 8 examines the issue of modern slavery in corporate supply chains in more detail. It is estimated that around 46 million people live in slavery around the world, with 90 per cent of these victims being exploited in the private economy. Chapter 8 considers emerging law combating modern slavery in three jurisdictions – the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia – and compares and contrasts key provisions of each. At this stage, it is unclear how effective this legislation will be to combat the enormous scourge of slavery and human trafficking in complex, global supply chains that are often labyrinthine and dispersed in nature.
