ABSTRACT

This chapter covers fitting garments without a waistline seam and why the seam is important to creating a sleek look when joining a bodice and a skirt, or trousers. The natural waistline area on a person is a convergence of a number of curved areas that meet from different angles. Drawings illustrate how combining a bodice front and back with a skirt front and back will create a mismatch between the two garment pieces. The mismatch requires adding a side bust dart to reduce the amount of front bodice vertical darts, adding more length to the bodice, re-working the side back bodice, and adjusting the vertical darts between both pieces.
