In the final hours of editing this book for publication, I received a new report from the Chronicle of Higher Education titled, “What Graduates Need to Succeed: Colleges and Employers Weigh In” (2017). 1 It contains all sorts of interesting facts and figures about the skills and competencies employers think students should possess upon graduation, identifying a notable gap between how colleges and universities judge their performance in preparing students for graduation and how industry, writ-large, judges our graduates’ career readiness. Of course, all of this is fascinating, but the real point is this study confirms the assertions I’ve made throughout this book.
