ABSTRACT

In the chapter, the author starts the historical and cultural process by examining the cultural matrix of twin representations within which twins live and build their own representations of themselves and their worlds. He particularly focuses on films and books, as they are a rich source of twin representations in Western culture. The chapter reviews themes that emerge from a broad range of cultural texts, such as one play and films and books. The films and books fall within the following genres: thriller, horror, comedy, crime, erotica, romance, political and mystery. The chapter provides a socio-cultural review that serves as a context for those interested in conducting further research on twin identity or accounts of twins' lives. The author briefly reiterates the rationale of his research aims in the light of the literature.
