ABSTRACT

The fleet consists of four twin-engine, wide-body, long-haul aircraft and eight twin-engine, narrow-body aircraft. The capacity of the wide-body aircraft is 350 seats and the narrow-body aircraft 200 seats. Experienced Engineers comprising the Maintenance team in the Integrated Operations Centre (IOC) are no different to experienced Controllers. Their sense of knowing exactly what key information to extract and from whom is a prized skill, as is an ability to ‘read between the lines’, to interpret communications appropriately and then make an informed judgement call. The immediate thought processes are for the safety of the aircraft, taking into account the remainder of the flight, and in particular whether the landing in BKK will be normal or abnormal. Customers booked on 44/45 would still be expecting to fly as per their booking as no indication of any other arrangement will have been made or advised to them.
