ABSTRACT

The composition of the Integrated Operations Center (IOC) is somewhat determined by the size and complexity of the airline. The success of the IOC concept has been realised due to the inclusion of key decision making, functional sections or departments. The nature of the Operations Controller role calls for a suitably skilled individual capable of performing in a high-pressure, fast paced, and complex environment. There are numerous systems and tools at hand to assist, as well as manuals, training engagements and other means for supporting the role. Operational management in the IOC includes activities related to normal and irregular operations, having a clear focus on the needs of customers but considering the various desired commercial and operational objectives and constraints. The growing sophistication of the business of aviation calls for employees who have at least a working knowledge of the industry. The role of Operations Controller calls for high levels of motivation.
