ABSTRACT

Title: ΜΟΥΣΑΙΟΥ ΤΑ ΚΑΘ’ ΗΡΩ ΚΑΙ ΛΕΑΝΔΡΟΝ (literally “of Musaeus, The things concerning Hero and Leander”). In some manuscripts τὰ καθ᾽ is replaced by τὰ περί, with the same meaning. Alternative titles include μουσαίου τὸ κατ᾽ἠρὼ (or καθ’ ἡρὼ) καὶ λέανδρον and μουσαίου ἡρὼ καὶ λέανδρος. Whether γραμματικοῦ, which appears in the oldest manuscript and in two (or possibly three) more from the fourteenth century, should be added to μουσαίου is debated: Kost prints it, arguing (16) that M. might have wished to erase it in order to be confused with the mythic poet Musaeus; Livrea-Eleuteri, Malcovati and Orsini leave it out.
