ABSTRACT
This chapter sets out the problem of sex as polluting, and sex as revolutionary. It discusses theories of sexuality as socially constructed, most notably in the work of Michel Foucault; introduces the concepts of sexual grammar and twilight moments; and addresses the problem of turning points in Western civilization and the history of sexuality.
