ABSTRACT

There are six short accounts of Sister Margaret, written by various nuns and now collected together in the same document box. These statements attest to her virtues and appear to have been compiled soon after Sister Margaret’s death; some of the texts describe posthumous miracles attributed to her influence. The number and nature of these accounts, in addition to the longer Lives, underlines the sense of a particular interest in Sister Margaret’s life and reputation: the compilation system evident here (with individual nuns each writing separate accounts) has possible parallels with the method used in writing the Life of Catherine Burton (see p. 30), another nun who was considered to be particularly blessed.
