ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book shows that firm dynamics in terms of entrants, relocations, dissolution and growth of firms constitutes a complex interplay in identifying life-cycle circumstances of firms and industries for explaining localized endogenous growth patterns in South-Holland. It explores agglomeration and spatial externality indicators that were used in econometric modeling. The book describes determinants of sectoral employment growth at the municipal and zip code level and accompanying, proximate locations, or locations unified in theoretical relevant spatial regimes. It focuses on firm specific research and development patterns in a similar framework of economic agglomeration as with the growth analyses. The book also focuses on three themes: first on significant spatial heterogeneity, second on significant spatial proximity patterns and third on the theoretical implications in terms of the agglomeration externalities framework. It also presents several populations of employment growth and innovation intensity.
