ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book starts by considering factors for determining project success and explains why every project manager should have a clear vision of the project in its finished, successful state. It introduces by telling some stories. All good nursery stories begin 'Once upon a time' and most point a moral. The book discusses the enabling methods that lead to a revolution towards the outcome-based management of IT and business change projects. It identifies each occasion on which one of these cash benefits is expected as a 'value flashpoint'. Success in managing business change projects comes from creating a project climate that encourages people to adapt their work behaviour in ways that will inevitably lead to sustainable improvements in company performance. Achieve this, and the numerical results will follow automatically.
