ABSTRACT

This chapter concludes the discussion begun in the previous chapter on the role of people in business change and IT projects. It deals particularly with the conditions and factors that can influence the behaviour of people, our understanding of which is essential if we are to bring all the stakeholders on board to contribute willingly and effectively to our change programmes. From the project point of view we might consider applying change to whole groups of people or parts of an organization at a time. The workforce and its managers will become sceptical of anything new. The enthusiasm and cooperation necessary for successful change implementation will have evaporated. When we set about constructing the specific future picture of a successful outcome to the project, we have to ask the sponsor and senior stakeholders how they will recognize success.
